Wellness Listening Tours
Dr. de Groot regularly invites members of the Department of Medicine to participate in 45-minute conversations about wellness needs and challenges at work, shares information about various resources available to the IU School of Medicine community, and hears suggestions on what additional resources should be facilitated. Conversations can take place in a group setting, via Zoom or in a staff meeting, or in individual sessions.Â

Wellness Task Force
Wellness Task Forces are based on the Mayo Medical Center model (Swenson & Shanafelt, 2022) to promote efficient and efficacious change in one’s work environment. A task force is formed when a group of faculty or staff have identified one ore more problem areas that contribute to distress or burnout. The task force will consist of a small group of key stakeholders who are affected and can influence the identified target problem. Task force groups will meet to: define and focus one specific issue; identify and engage any additional key stakeholders related to the issue; generate ‘pilot’ solutions; and evaluate outcomes and iterate solutions

Food for Thought
Food for Thought is a cognitive behavioral therapy group-based intervention designed to address distress and burnout for faculty. The program consists of 4 monthly group sessions that are co-facilitated by Dr. de Groot and a faculty member from the participating Division. Groups are offered in either in-person or virtual formats. Time and day of meetings is flexible and designed to meet the needs of the group. Discussion topics include: risk factors for distress and burnout; work/life integration; communication strategies; cognitive and behavioral strategies to improve well-being; and positive psychology strategies for thriving.
