Muhammad Aamir, MBBS

Internal Medicine (Muncie), PGY 1

Hi, I’m Muhammad Aamir. I was born and raised in Kohat, Pakistan. Most of my life was spent in boarding schools. I graduated from Khyber Medical College in Peshawar. Curiosity of the human body runs heavily in me, as well as my family members who also practice medicine pushing me to do my MBBS. After graduating medical school, I few months of my internship back home, which gave me a solid start in clinical medicine. During that time, I got married to my wonderful wife. Soon after, I moved to the United States to be with her and to complete my clinical rotations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Those experiences helped me better understand the U.S. health care system and enhanced my commitment to practicing medicine here. I’ve always been passionate about internal medicine. I love how it's at the center of patient care, offers broad in-depth learning across many areas and encourages critical thinking. I'm also interested in a few subspecialities, but I am looking to explore more during my clinical elective rotations to see what interests me the most.

I ranked IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital on top of my rank list because of the welcoming environment I felt during my interview. The faculty and residents were approachable, and it was clear the program values both strong training and resident well-being. Matching here was a proud moment for me, and I’m excited for the learning journey ahead.

Outside of the hospital, I enjoy spending time with my wife, hanging out with my co-residents and playing pool or table tennis. I really like that Muncie offers affordable living and convenient housing close to the hospital helping me maintain a good work-life balance.

I’m truly grateful to be part of this program and am looking forward to learning, growing and giving my best during these three years.

Internal Medicine (Muncie), PGY 1

Hello, I’m Amer! I was born in Chicago but raised in Jordan, where I graduated with my MD from the University of Jordan, and completed my internship year there. I’m absolutely excited to be coming back to the U.S. to open my residency chapter, especially here at IU School of Medicine and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital!

I’ve always been drawn to stories, especially the kinds that make you pause and see the world just a little bit differently. Surprisingly, that love for narratives led me to medicine, where each patient brings their own stories and perspectives. Through training done in both the U.S. and Jordan, with their different resources, approaches and patient populations, I’ve come to realize that the most common ground in medicine is simply humanity. Despite where care occurs on our planet, people sometimes just need someone willing to listen.

When I’m not actively absorbed in medicine, I do like exploring the world by traveling or by getting immersed in stories, whether that’s watching movies and series, playing story-rich video games, reading books or enjoying anything with an attracting narrative. I also dabble in some creative writing and enjoy crafting my own worlds and characters. I’m very much looking forward to finally discovering what residency has in store for me!

I was born in Indianapolis, IN, and raised in nearby Zionsville, where my parents instilled in me and my three older siblings a deep appreciation for science, exploration and lifelong learning. I attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with plans to pursue software engineering, but soon realized I craved a more personal and social career. Reflecting on my goals and my own personal experiences with acute illness, I felt called to medicine and decided to become a physician like my father.

I transferred to Miami University in Oxford, OH, where I earned a degree in biochemistry in 2020, and received my MD from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2024. Initially planning to pursue anesthesiology, I first came to Muncie as a transitional year resident. However, I quickly fell in love with the variety, challenge and continuity of internal medicine, and the exceptionally supportive family-like culture I discovered at Ball Memorial Hospital. This program was an easy choice for me when I reapplied for residency, and I was thrilled to learn I had matched here.

My training has taken me from rural family clinics to world-renowned academic centers, reinforcing my appreciation for preventive medicine, population-level health initiatives and cost-conscious care as I strive to practice with flexibility, compassion and pragmatism. As a physician-scientist, I aim to apply my background in biochemistry and molecular genetics to deepen my etiological understanding of disease from an ontological and mechanistic perspective such that I can contribute to innovative diagnostic and treatment methods, especially those employing genomic data, precision biomarkers and other emerging technologies.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy making music, whether it’s singing with Muncie Masterworks Chorale or composing on piano, ukulele, saxophone or digitally. I also love biking the Cardinal Greenway, cooking, working out, reading, watching documentaries and spending time with my family, friends and fellow residents.

Hello! I’m Wailea — yes, just like the stunning beach resort in Hawaii. My mom picked the name, inspired by its beauty, and I’d like to think she set the tone for the kind of life I’d grow into. I was raised in the Philippines, where strong family ties and a deep sense of community shaped who I am. I grew up surrounded by love, taught to dream boldly and to always be mindful of others. Medical school brought me not just knowledge, but lifelong friendships — built through shared challenges, laughter and occasional tears.

Now, I’m excited to begin this new chapter of my life at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. During my virtual interview, I caught a glimpse of the program’s engaging and collaborative culture. Even through my laptop screen, I could feel the faculty’s genuine desire to mentor their residents and foster their professional growth. The residents I met praised the program for striking a perfect balance between autonomy and support in patient care. Seeing how closely-knit everyone is in the program, it didn’t take long for me to consider Muncie my new home.

When I’m not in the hospital, you’ll likely find me belting out tunes in karaoke, indulging in good belly laughs or deep in a conversation that feeds the soul. I’m also a travel enthusiast who loves crafting detailed itineraries — there’s something about having a trip on the horizon that keeps me inspired. One dream of mine? A solo road trip to the Great Lakes, just me, my SUV and miles of waterfront views — a perfect backdrop for reflection and quiet gratitude.

My name is Iqra Shahab, and I completed my medical education at Dow International Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. I grew up in Saudi Arabia in a family of physicians and was deeply inspired by my father, an anesthesiologist. As a child, accompanying him to the hospital and witnessing the bustling environment — seeing doctors in scrubs and hearing medical jargon — sparked my early passion for medicine. My parents’ constant encouragement and belief in me have been a driving force throughout my journey.

Throughout my medical education, I have embraced hard work and pursued my goals with dedication. One of the most enriching aspects of my upbringing has been the opportunity to engage with people from diverse cultures. I am excited to join the Internal Medicine Residency at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. The program’s strong academic foundation, coupled with its supportive and welcoming environment, made it clear that this is the ideal place for me to grow as a physician. I was born and raised in the western part of India and have been captivated by medicine since childhood. To me, medicine is the art of unfolding diseases, just like origami, where every fold unfurls creativity. Working in medicine feels like being a detective in a mystery novel, piecing together clues from medical histories and lab results to uncover diagnoses and provide the right treatment.

There is nothing more rewarding to me than bringing happiness to others, and internal medicine is a powerful portal for me to contribute my share in people's well-being. I am incredibly grateful and excited to begin my internal medicine residency at IU School of Medicine and Ball Memorial Hospital! The program’s supportive culture and close-knit bond among colleagues are what make this program so special. Having my partner in the same program is an added joy! I look forward to growing into a well-rounded physician through this program.

I was born and raised in the vibrant city of Kathmandu, Nepal, and completed my medical degree at the Institute of Medicine — Nepal’s top-ranked medical school, and a place for which I’ll always be grateful. After graduation, I moved to California and spent time in clinical research, where I developed a deep appreciation for evidence-based medicine and lifelong learning.

I first heard about IU School of Medicine and Ball Memorial Hospital while rotating at another institution, and everything I learned — supportive faculty, a close-knit culture and strong academic training — stuck with me. I’m excited to pursue a fellowship, and I know Ball Memorial Hospital will give me the perfect foundation to start that journey.

I’m a proud Potterhead (“killed — or worse, expelled!”) a connoisseur of horror movies (you’ll catch me shutting my ears and watching through my fingers) and happiest when I’m exploring new places or trying food I didn’t have to cook.

I was born and raised in Peshawar, Pakistan. Growing up, I developed a keen interest in computer science, particularly programming. I taught myself VB.NET from scratch and began freelancing in the 8th grade. Initially, I was set on pursuing a career in computer science. However, everything changed when my sister gained admission to medical school. Through her, I gained insight into the world of medicine and noticed similarities between problem-solving in computer science and medicine. Moreover, I realized that both fields heavily rely on algorithms.

I am very excited to work at the IU School of Medicine and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. I envision myself as a well-rounded internist who can work in any health care setting (outpatient, inpatient or even the ICU). I’m confident that the excellent training and autonomy at Ball Memorial Hospital will adequately prepare me for that. I find all the subspecialties of internal medicine very interesting, so I’d like to explore them before committing to one.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading books, watching TV, exercising and dining out.
