Message from the Division Director

At the Indiana University School of Medicine, the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is committed to advancing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. In close partnership with IU Health, we provide exceptional care to patients across Indiana and beyond, earning national recognition as one of the most comprehensive programs in the country.

Our team offers expertise across the full spectrum of GI and liver conditions, supported by a strong culture of multidisciplinary collaboration. From liver and pancreatic disease to motility disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer prevention, advanced endoscopy and transplant medicine, we are dedicated to delivering the highest level of care.

Innovation continues to guide our work. Our nationally recognized hepatology research program provides patients early access to groundbreaking therapies and fuels advances in clinical practice. Our adult liver transplant program continues to grow, performing a record number of life‑saving transplants thanks to an expanding live donor program and the collective strength of our clinical teams.

Our reach extends far beyond the medical center. With more than 100,000 patient visits last year across IU Health, the VA, Eskenazi Health and statewide outreach clinics, we are proud to serve patients wherever they need us.

Education remains central to our mission. Our accredited fellowship program attracts outstanding trainees who thrive in an environment shaped by clinical excellence, scientific discovery and a deep commitment to mentorship.

We are proud of our most recent accomplishments, as well as the legacy of excellence for which we’ve become known nationwide. On behalf of our division, I thank you for your interest in our program. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
