Training physicians since 1903

When the Indiana University Board of Trustees approved the creation of a new medical department in 1903, it marked the beginning of what is now the IU School of Medicine. Since that time, the school has attracted the funding and resources needed to build modern medical facilities to train physicians and scientists, from the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children (1924) to the new Medical Education and Research Building (2025). From educating a relative handful of students on a small campus on the west side of Indianapolis, IU School of Medicine has grown into a research-intensive school training new generations of physicians at nine campuses across Indiana.
