The Division of Infectious Diseases at Indiana University School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing health locally and globally through the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. This division is composed of 41 faculty, four adjunct infectious disease pharmacists, four to six fellows-in-training, and a strong team of administrative, educational and research support staff.
Providing expert infectious diseases clinical care in Indianapolis, the division serves patients at IU Health’s downtown academic health center and suburban facilities, Sydney & Lois Eskenazi Health, and the Richard L. Roudebush Indianapolis VA Medical Center. A particular point of pride is its care for individuals living with HIV at these locations, including two Ryan White federally funded Tier 1 clinics.
With more than $21 million in research funding from the NIH, CDC and industry partners, the division supports groundbreaking investigations into HIV, sexually transmitted infections, malaria and reproductive health infections. Faculty have a legacy of innovation, having contributed to the development of the Gardasil HPV vaccine and the creation of rapid diagnostic tests for Histoplasma and Legionella. Additionally, the division conducts numerous investigator-initiated and commercially sponsored clinical trials to bring new treatments to the forefront. Its HIV clinical and research programs are internationally recognized, particularly through collaboration with the AMPATH HIV clinical care programs in Western Kenya.
The division also takes great pride in its fellowship program, which continues to train the next generation of infectious disease clinicians and physician-scientists. Funding opportunities are available for those interested in extended research training.
