The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Neurology offers a one-year ACGME-accredited clinical neurophysiology fellowship. Three positions are offered each year. Two positions focus on EEG and epilepsy; the remaining position focuses on EMG and neuromuscular disorders.
Under the direction of Dragos Sabau, MD, clinical neurophysiology fellows learn the entire range of neurophysiology techniques, including EEG, EMG, intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring and sleep studies. Fellows acquire the skills necessary to function independently as a clinical neurophysiologist in either an academic setting or private practice. This program has trained more than 115 specialists in clinical neurophysiology since its inception in 1972. Graduates pursue careers in academic medicine, private practice, and telehealth/neurophysiology monitoring.
Fellows train at multiple IU Health clinical facilities—both inpatient and outpatient—in downtown Indianapolis. IU Health Methodist Hospital, the most established Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, and Riley Hospital for Children, a nationally ranked children's hospital, both offer 24-7 epilepsy video monitoring units as well as neurotelemetry units. Most of a fellow's clinical service is held at the IU Health Neuroscience Center, which houses the only Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Indiana, an ALS Center of Excellence and an MDA Care Center.
Application Requirements
Applicants to the Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship must have completed an ACGME-accredited four-year residency in Neurology.
