Executive Leadership

Indiana University School of Medicine is guided by an experienced and committed leadership team that is responsible for ensuring the school fulfills its tripartite mission to educate the next generation of physicians, conduct transformative research, and deliver preeminent patient care.

Dean Jay L. Hess, MD, PhD, MHSA

Hess joined Indiana University School of Medicine in 2013 as its 10th dean. He leads the largest medical school in the United States, with nine campuses and approximately 11,000 faculty, staff and learners throughout Indiana. During his tenure, he has overseen a doubling in research funding from the National Institutes of Health, led the school through a comprehensive curriculum reform, and strengthened the relationship with IU Health, the school’s primary clinical partner and one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers.

Tatiana Foroud, PhD

Executive Associate Dean for Research Affairs

As executive associate dean for research affairs, Foroud oversees IU School of Medicine’s $450 million research enterprise. In this role, Foroud helps to guide the school’s research efforts by strategically focusing on areas with maximum potential impact, investing in faculty expertise and infrastructure, launching interdisciplinary research centers and institutes, and forging relationships with industry and academic partners to translate research discoveries into new therapies, diagnostics and devices.

Bradley L. Allen, MD, PhD

Interim Executive Associate Dean for Educational Affairs

Allen is responsible for preparing the next generation of highly-skilled physicians and health care professionals who will serve patients throughout Indiana, the country and the world. He oversees all aspects of medical education at IU School of Medicine, including the largest MD program in the country with more than 1,400 medical students spread across nine campuses, and more than 1,100 residents and fellows receiving post-graduate training in the full range of medical specialties.

Michele Saysana, MD

Executive Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs

In addition to her role as executive associate dean for clinical affairs, Saysana serves as senior vice president of academic medicine for the Indiana University Health system. She is charged with ensuring that IU School of Medicine, in collaboration with its hospital partners, effectively delivers leading-edge care to patients throughout Indiana, incorporates research into clinical practice, and systematically addresses overarching health concerns affecting Hoosiers such as mental health, obesity and maternal-fetal health.

Mary E. Dankoski, PhD

Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development

Dankoski is responsible for fostering a vibrant and supportive environment in which the school’s 6,500 full-time, part-time and volunteer faculty can advance their careers and make meaningful contributions to the school’s mission. Dankoski and her team are also responsible for recruiting talented leaders and ensuring IU School of Medicine remains a diverse and welcoming community.

Chemen M. Neal, MD

Executive Associate Dean for Equity & Inclusion
Chief Diversity Officer

In her role as executive associate dean for equity & inclusion, Neal works closely with academic, research and clinical leaders across the school to advance DEIJ strategic priorities for students, trainees, faculty and staff. As a member of the dean’s senior executive team, Neal serves as an institutional thought leader, contributing across mission areas. Initially in her role, she will be working toward establishing metrics to help school leadership gain a greater understanding of key areas including retention and belonging, as well as focusing on the diversification of faculty.

Jamie B. Dimond, MBA

Executive Associate Dean of Financial and Administrative Services

Dimond leads a multi-faceted team that ensures IU School of Medicine is prepared and equipped to carry out its mission. He is responsible for the delivery of quality services related to human resources, financial and budgetary affairs, decision support, facilities management, research and compliance administration and process improvement.

Neil H. Perdue, PhD 

Senior Executive Advisor to the Dean

As a member of the school’s executive leadership team, Perdue serves as the senior advisor to the dean and focuses on directing, monitoring and implementing the strategic and operational agenda for IU School of Medicine. He supports executive leadership in increasing alignment with the health sciences schools at IU and represents the dean on a wide range of strategic, organizational and operational initiatives, including alignment with the health system, strategic communications and compliance and security matters.
