The Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship program at the IU School of Medicine offers flexible training with broad clinical exposure to support diverse career goals.
The first year consists of 12 months of clinical training divided between pulmonary and critical care medicine. The structure of the second and third years is tailored to each fellow's career objectives. Fellows pursuing a primarily clinical career complete a total of 30 months of clinical training, including six months dedicated to a clinical research project. Fellows supported by the T32 training grant (typically one per year) receive 18 months of protected research time. Those pursuing a research or academic career receive between six and 16 months of protected research time, depending on project needs and career goals. Call and weekend responsibilities are shared equally among all fellows regardless of track.
Throughout the fellowship, all fellows participate in a weekly half-day outpatient pulmonary clinic at one of our affiliated outpatient sites.
