Curriculum

Fellows will receive clinical bedside and didactic instruction for diseases, conditions, and clinical syndromes encompassing a wide range of neurocritical care conditions including but not limited to cerebrovascular diseases (acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, cerebral aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, moya-moya disease), neuro-oncology, post operative care of brain tumor resection, pituitary and other neuro-endocrine diseases, spinal cord ischemia and traumatic spine injuries, traumatic brain injury, neuromuscular disorders, status epilepticus, metabolic/anoxic/toxic encephalopathies and central nervous system infections.

Fellows shall rotate in other critical care settings and receive instruction in a wide variety of critical care diseases in the cardiac, surgical, trauma, medical and transplant critical care units.

Rotations

  • Six months in the Neuro ICU (NCC)
  • Two months in affiliated intensive care unit training – Surgical trauma ICU, Medical ICU, Cardiac Medical ICU, Cardiothoracic and ECMO (heart-lung transplant); ICU (the amount of time spent in each depends on the fellow’s background and prior exposure)
  • One month on vascular neurology service including neuro-intervention
  • One month on neuroanesthesia, ultrasound and airway management service
  • One month in research
  • One month in elective rotation

  • Six months in the NCC
  • Four months in elective
  • Two months in research

  • May be personalized for each fellow
  • Electives include but not limited to critical care EEG, neuro-infectious disease, nephrology

  • Journal club
  • M & M conference
  • PCCM/CCM fellowship conferences
