Registration for the POCUS Summer Program is now open.
Students interested in jump-starting their point of care ultrasound (POCUS) skills and experiences can now indicate their interest in the school’s POCUS summer program, which will be held weekdays, May 29–June 10, 2025 in Indianapolis. The deadline to sign up is May 1, 2025.
This opportunity is great for those considering careers in many specialties including emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, anesthesia, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery and more. POCUS will likely be part of your career. The program is limited to approximately 60 rising second year medical students. During this unique, intensive two-week program you will:
- learn to perform, interpret and teach POCUS
- learn the following exams: aorta, FAST, cardiac, renal, gallbladder, procedural, musculoskeletal, ocular and more
- gain experience that will boost your CV and give you the opportunity to connect with students across the state
Under the guidance of faculty and senior sonography students, students learn how to use POCUS in a variety of clinical specialties, spend 16-24 hours practicing on standardized patients or simulators, and complete asynchronous coursework. Participants will also serve as models for their colleagues to practice scanning. Upon completion, students will be expected to serve as a resource for peer-training on their campus in the upcoming years. Graduates will automatically meet qualifications for membership in the POCUS Probe Society.
Limited housing stipends are available for regional campus students. Students participating in the Indiana University Medical Student Program for Research and Scholarship Summer Program (IMPRS) are welcome to apply. The POCUS team will try to coordinate schedules so students can participate in both programs.
