OSHA Training Module: https://expand.iu.edu/browse/e-training/ehs/courses/bloodborne-pathogens-training-for-clinical-spring-2024
- Make sure you are completing the course designated for Clinical employees and students.
Submission to IU School of Medicine Compliance
Please upload and submit your completion certificate for both the OSHA and HIPAA modules into your MedHub account.
- The completion certificate will have the IU logo, your name, and the course name reflected on the completion certificate. Transcripts of the courses or screenshots showing course or quiz completion are not accepted.

All IU School of Medicine students are required to submit proof of an annual influenza vaccination. IU Campus Health offers several flu clinics across campus in the fall, or you may obtain flu vaccination from your health care provider, regional campus, or pharmacy location.
Students may request an approved medical exemption for the influenza vaccination by contacting IU Campus Health at healthsv@iu.edu and IU School of Medicine Compliance at compreq@iu.edu. IU School of Medicine does not offer religious exemption for the annual influenza vaccination.

COVID-19 Vaccination
Due Date for Completion: October 30, 2023
All IU School of Medicine students are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved medical exemption granted by the IU School of Medicine.
- A person is defined as being fully vaccinated two weeks after the final dose of the primary vaccine.
- At this time, receipt of a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine is not required to be considered fully vaccinated, so long as the original series was completed.
- Regardless of your immunization status, during your clinical rotations, you may be required to care for patients infected with COVID-19 under the standard precautions and with appropriate PPE provided. These measures have proven to be very effective in preventing transmission of COVID-19 for health care workers.
Most Phase 2 and Phase 3 students will have either been vaccinated or have an exemption filed with the school. If you have not previously documented your COVID-19 vaccination status with the school, please follow these instructions.
- Submit documentation of your COVID-19 vaccination by emailing IU Campus Health at healthsv@iu.edu. This documentation must reflect your name, date of vaccination, type of vaccine administered, and the administering entity.

IU School of Medicine requires all students to maintain current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care providers ONLY from a licensed American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross training facility or provider. This documentation must be submitted to the Compliance Office via your MedHub account annually and kept up to date. Valid BLS courses should have an educational component (either online or in-person) and an in-person skills check-off component.
It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and maintain valid BLS certification.
Recommended Courses

CPR, K-12 First Aid, and other course types will not be accepted as valid BLS certification.

Your regional campus administrative staff or IU School of Medicine Compliance can help guide you to local classes and locations, or you may follow the links above to the American Heart Association or American Red Cross websites.
Indianapolis BLS Certification
Students in Indianapolis may choose to utilize the IU Health RQI program from the American Heart Association (AHA) in addition to the above options.
IU Health has converted BLS certification/recertification from its former full-day session into a quarterly, 15-minute online module and a 5-10 minute in-person cart check-off that is all accessible 24/7. You must complete both the online and in-person cart check-off to be BLS certified.
RQI Quarterly Session Schedule:
- Jan. 1-March 31
- April 1-June 30
- July 1-Sept. 30
- Oct. 1-Dec. 31
BLS Certification/Recertification Steps:
- You will receive an email from RQI 1Stop and RQIPartner with the subject line of, “IUH Resuscitation System Account Creation” indicating that you are part of the RQI system. If you do not receive an email from RQI1Stop or RQIPartner, it is your responsibility to log in to RQI to obtain your certification.
- Once you receive that message, please click on the “Click Here” within the email to set a password. Your username is your email address to access the system. Please note, you will need your Cerner username and password to access the carts, where you will complete the skills portion in the system. You must complete the annual IU Health Physician Education Modules through the IU Health Center for Physician Education to obtain your Cerner log in information.
- If you do not receive an email from RQI1Stop or RQIPartner, please log in through the IU Health Center for Physician Education portal using your Cerner username and password.
- Complete the online module titled, “RQI Healthcare Provider: Prep.” This portion of the module is online simulation and should take you approximately 15 minutes and can be done at anytime, anywhere.
- Upon completion of the online module, you are now ready to complete the Skills Check-Off module. This will be done on carts located at IU Health hospital locations.
- Locate your BLS Certification Cart. These carts are accessible 24/7. If you have questions as to the location of your cart, please access the RQI system for locations.
- Access the cart using your Cerner username and password. You will have three opportunities to pass each of the four sections of the Skills Check-Off.
- Upon successful completion of both modules, you are now certified/recertified in BLS.
- Retrieve proof of certification/recertification documentation by logging in to the RQI system dashboard once you successfully complete both modules. Your BLS certification/recertification documentation showing the certification date and expiration date must be uploaded and into your MedHub account and submitted for review. The MSE Compliance Office will then review your updated BLS certification/recertification and mark it as “Complete.”
- Remember that BLS recertification modules must be completed quarterly to maintain your certification and to be in compliance.
Find additional information regarding the RQI program through IU Health.

Phase 2 and Phase 3 students are required to submit to annual Fit Testing in accordance with OSHA regulations. The Fit Testing process involves determining the proper N95 mask for you. Students must submit a Fit Test for at least one mask annually to be compliant with mandatory compliance requirements. Your Fit Test must be submitted to the Compliance Office to be compliant.
Based on your campus assignment, you will be Fit Tested for the N95 masks used by our affiliated partner facilities located near your campus. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure you are Fit Tested for all masks required for your campus assignment.
Submission to IU School of Medicine Compliance
- Email your complete test to IU Campus Health at healthsv@iu.edu. Fit Test documentation should include your name, date, the mask(s) tested, whether you passed or failed the Fit Test, and be signed and dated by the individual conducting the Fit Test. Submission of your Fit Test documentation to your regional campus staff or affiliated facility partner does not satisfy the school's mandatory compliance requirement.

Due Date for Completion: PRN – Test and Monitoring by Request of Onboarding Facility Only
Phase 2 students may be requested to take a PPD test if you have had exposure to someone with TB. In addition, there are some affiliated medical campuses that require a PPD test be done prior to the start of a clinical rotation due to hospital system requirements. You will be notified if this is required for you prior to specific rotations.
If you are asked to take a PPD test and are on the Indianapolis campus, you can proceed to IU Campus Health. At IU Campus Health, they will administer the PPD test, and you will be scheduled to return for result determination between 48-72 hours later. Make sure to allow yourself plenty of time to do this in advance of your rotation based on the availability of appointment times at IU Campus Health.
If you are a student at a regional facility, please contact your regional or statewide course coordinator for assistance with obtaining a PPD test at your location. PPD test results must be reported and documentation provided to IU Campus Health at healthsv@iu.edu.
EPIC is an EMR used by many health care facilities around the state of Indiana. You must complete EPIC training prior to the start of your scheduled clinical rotation at a facility utilizing EPIC.
