| Addiction Awareness SIG | Addiction is an incredibly prevalent disease in the United States, directly impacting an estimated 21 million adults. Despite these numbers, the subject of addiction is underrepresented in the medical school curriculum, with addiction education being typically limited to a few hours over all four years. The vision of the AASIG is to begin closing the gap in addiction awareness within medical education. Ultimately, we aim to improve medical student knowledge of addiction from an array of perspectives, as well as improve our ability to effectively treat patients struggling with addiction with both empathy and confidence in the future through the work of this SIG. We hope our members will leave feeling empowered by a new sense of pride in their advanced knowledge of addiction and recovery. |
