IU School of Medicine is one of a distinguished and limited number of programs in the country providing an official pathway for training geriatricians. While this pathway still requires 48-months of training to be eligible for certification in geriatrics, it offers several advantages.

Benefits of pursuing a Medicine-Geriatrics Residency

Early exposure to geriatric leadership who will mentor you throughout training.

Clinical experiences in geriatrics during internal medicine training which satisfy clinical requirement for Geriatric Medicine Fellowship.

Opportunity for scholarly activity, including research, during fellowship since several months of clinical requirements are completed during residency.
Application Details

There is one medicine-geriatrics position each year.

This program has a separate NRMP code from the internal medicine categorical program.

Both internal medicine and geriatric medicine faculty are involved in the interview and selection process.

Applicants may rank both the medicine-geriatrics program and the categorical residency training program.
