PGY 1 and PGY 2
The Child Neurology Residency begins with two years of training in the Department of Pediatrics. Schedules align with categorical pediatrics residents so you have the same opportunities, roles and responsibilities to get the most out of your foundations in pediatrics.
XY scheduling is an educationally-driven initiative that has been successfully implemented and well-received. This plan was created with significant resident input and is integrated into all of our categorical and combined pediatric programs.
Highlights:
- The X vs Y/Z blocks are alternating which adds to balance and wellness
- Our XYZ system is fully aligned with other 2025 new template curricular changes
- Didactics were also updated and integrated into the XYZ system to add academic half days
- Vacation, call/jeopardy and days off are also integrated into the XYZ system

Vacation Time
All PGY 3s and above will receive four seven-day weeks free from their training responsibilities. This consists of 20 weekdays and eight weekend days. It is strongly suggested that the resident take vacation time during electives or outpatient rotations. The resident must request time off in advance through Medhub and obtain the program director's authorization.
