Photographer
As the IU School of Medicine’s principal photographer, Tim Yates documents the school's dynamic working and learning environments, including state-of-the-art research labs, classrooms, operating rooms and special events. He also captures environmental portraits of faculty, students and staff that highlight their work and expertise. These images, along with his other photography, are used to create engaging content for IU School of Medicine communications and marketing projects and channels, including websites, social media, email marketing, digital signage, art installations and more.
In addition to his photography skills, Tim brings deep knowledge and relationships to his role in the Office of Strategic Communications and Visual Media, with more than 25 years of experience supporting visual communications at the IU School of Medicine.
Before joining IU, Tim worked as a graphic designer, photographer and illustrator for various organizations in Indiana, including his own freelance business. He earned a bachelor’s degree in visual communication from the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI (now IU Indianapolis).
