Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency

Medical students interested in applying to the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency six-year integrated program at Indiana University School of Medicine must meet eligibility requirements and apply through the Electronic Residency Application Program (ERAS®) program.

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency program at IU School of Medicine will offer two interview dates for the 2025 NRMP® Match Season.

Minimum Requirements for U.S. Graduates

  • Completed ERAS® application with photo

  • Three letters of recommendation, one of which must come from either a surgery program chair or surgery program director

  • USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK Scores submitted; we do not accept COMLEX scores

  • Medical school transcript

  • Personal statement

  • We will only sponsor J1 visas — no exceptions.

Minimum Application Requirements for Foreign Medical Graduates

  • Completed ERAS® application with photo

  • Three letters of recommendation, one of which must come from either a surgery program chair or surgery program director

  • USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK Scores submitted

  • Medical school transcript

  • Personal statement

  • Must not be more than two years removed from medical school training

  • Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate acquired at least 60 days prior to start of anticipated residency start date

  • We will only sponsor J1 visas — no exceptions
