Sara J. Pereira, MD, FACS, joined the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery as division chief and co-director of the Cardiovascular Institute in September 2025. She specializes in adult cardiac surgery with clinical expertise in re-operative cardiac procedures, transcatheter and minimally invasive valve operations, and multi-arterial coronary artery bypass grafting. Her research focuses on advancing transcatheter valve therapies, understanding low-flow, low-gradient aortic stenosis, and examining how social determinants of health and health disparities impact outcomes in cardiothoracic surgery.
