Pathway to Indiana Visiting Residency

Open to all current residents, the Pathway to Indiana Visiting Residency program supports qualified trainees whose backgrounds, experiences or perspectives promote improved health for all Hoosiers including those from medically underserved communities.

This program is designed to:

  • Encourage residents, including those from diverse backgrounds, to apply to IU School of Medicine's fellowship programs.
  • Increase awareness of opportunities in academic medicine.
  • Prepare trainees to provide culturally competent care for patients from all walks of life.
  • Provide mentorship opportunities to trainees within their field of interest.

A visiting resident can expect:

  • At least 75% clinical experience being direct exposure to the subspecialty.
  • Exposure to fellowship didactic content.
  • Meeting with program leadership.
  • Opportunity for fellowship interview.
  • Connection/matching of the visiting resident with a current fellow (preferable) or faculty if fellow connection is not feasible.

Eligibility

All applicants must be full-time residents in good academic standing at their home institutions. Applicants without an interest in applying to fellowship will not be considered.

Program Requirements

Applicants must prepare a personal statement indicating their genuine interest in the specialty and how fellowship would integrate into their future career plans. Individual programs may require additional supporting documents.

Applicants will send the required materials to the department contacts via email. Once they have been granted a rotation slot from the department, applicants are eligible to apply for the Pathway to Indiana funding.
