For Researchers

The Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (IADRC) is committed to sharing resources with internal and external investigators to further treatment development and research in Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.

The IADRC encourages applications requesting access to its various resources. Questions or need guidance applying for resources? Contact the Director of Administration, Sarah Van Heiden, PhD, MPH

Acknowledging the Center

If you receive research support through utilization of any Core resources from the IADRC, or if you receive IADRC-supported grant funding, you are responsible for acknowledging the IADRC in publications, posters and presentations per the guidelines below.

Resource Requests

Resource requests from researchers will be taken into consideration by the applicable Science Executive Committee. Researcher applicants can expect to be notified with receipt of a request within five business days. Researchers can expect a final status of their application within four weeks. The committee will not provide a written evaluation of proposals. A letter indicating the committee’s decision to support or not support the proposed request will be provided to the applicant, along with any special instructions and/ or requirements that must be met before resources will be released. Biospecimen Requests

Investigators who request biospecimen samples must provide documentation of IRB approval or exemption status. Requests for samples will need to be reviewed and approved by the IADRC Biospecimen Sharing Committee. An investigator proposing to obtain biospecimen samples on subjects from the IADRC, must submit the corresponding resource request form to the IADRC Biospecimen Sharing Committee for review. A discussion of biospecimen sharing will occur, and documentation will be included in a decision letter provided to the researcher upon review.

Tissue Requests

Investigators who request tissue must provide documentation of IRB approval or exemption status. Requests for additional data will need to be reviewed and approved by the IADRC Neuropathology Specimen Sharing Committee. An investigator proposing to obtain tissue samples on subjects from the IADRC, must complete and submit the corresponding resource request form to the IADRC Neuropathology Specimen Sharing Committee for review. A discussion of tissue sharing will occur, and documentation will be included in a decision letter provided to the researcher upon review.

Data Requests

The IADRC follows the NIH Data Sharing Policy. Similarly, the center asks that investigators using its resources share data with the IADRC. An investigator proposing to obtain data on subjects from the IADRC must complete the corresponding resource request form to the IADRC Data Sharing Committee for review. A discussion of data sharing will occur, and documentation of what data will be shared or not shared will be included in the decision letter provided to the researcher upon review.

Imaging Requests

Imaging requests are reviewed by the IADRC Neuroimaging Committee. A committee discussion will occur, and documentation of what will be shared or not shared will be determined. After the committee decision, a letter will be provided to the researcher which will include the decision and next steps.

Publishing?

Checklist for Authors

Resources provided by the Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center request process should use this checklist to prepare publications:

  • Include the IADRC grant citation
  • Submit publication to IADRC for review before releasing manuscripts, meeting abstracts, or any other research results
  • Submit publication (webpage with REDCap form). View an example.
  • Comply with the NIH public access policy, all authors using IADRC resources must submit their work to PubMed Central (PMC)
  • Upon publication, send a final copy of manuscript or abstract to iadrc@iu.edu

Approval

If a request is approved:

  • An estimate for any costs to be incurred by the IADRC that would need to be reimbursed would be provided to the requesting lab for approval
  • A sharing agreement would be sent to the PI for signature. This agreement includes any limitations on the use of samples, grant acknowledgments and any other conditions if needed
    • Once costs are approved or if there aren’t any costs to the requestor and the sharing agreement is executed, the IADRC lab would be instructed to schedule the sample/data preparation

Grant Citation

In abstracts and posters, acknowledge the IADRC and the grant number, including the source of the data.

In presentations and the acknowledgments section of manuscripts, the following statement acknowledging the NACC grant and IADRC support is required:
