Capturing the functional impact of intervention at the muscle level
The Neuromuscular Function Core provides reliable, high-quality, standardized evaluation tools and expertise for the assessment of muscle function in small animals. The core focuses on changes in contractile properties that emerge from genetic manipulations, pharmacologic treatments, surgical interventions, dietary modifications, trauma, exercise/loading programs, induced disease (e.g., cancer and diabetes) or other environmental modifications. The core provides full service muscle testing ranging from experimental design consultation, fee-for-service measures of in vivo and ex vivo muscle contraction, access to instrumentation and equipment, training to investigators and their staff, standard operating procedures for all methodology, maintenance and calibration of all equipment, and expertise and advice for interpretation of results generated through the core. With the understanding that reliable skeletal muscle contractile measures require extensive experience by the investigator, a particular focus of the core is to perform the contractile measures on a fee-for-service basis.
