Training Facilities and Equipment

The majority of radiation oncology resident rotations are at the NCI-designated IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Senior residents also rotate at a community satellite clinic, located at IU Health West Hospital. Details about the equipment available at each site are below.

  • Treatment machines include a Varian Edge, two TrueBeams, Elekta Flexitron HDR Unit, big bore CT simulator with 4D CT

  • 802-bed hospital and Level I trauma center
  • Treatment machines include Gamma Knife Perfexion, two Varian TrueBeams with 6 degrees of freedom couch and big bore CT simulator with 4D CT

This is the only comprehensive children’s hospital in Indiana, treating more than 75 percent of childhood cancers in the state. No radiation oncology treatment facilities are in this hospital; all radiation oncology patients are treated at IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The county hospital for Marion County includes a multidisciplinary clinic with the IU School of Medicine Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program. No radiation oncology treatment facilities; patients are typically treated at IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center or IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Treatment machines include Varian TrueBeam and big bore CT simulator.

The IU Health Joe and Shelly Schwarz Cancer Center opened in Carmel, IN in early 2020. Current equipment includes a Varian Truebeam, CT simulator  and HDR.
