Ordering Recommendation: Detects amplification of the HER2 gene associated with breast cancer prognosis and treatment decisions. Detects amplification of HER2 locus which is used in prognosis and treatment decisions in primary or metastatic breast and gastroesophageal cancers.

Specimen Requirements

Collect: 10% buffered formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue (PET) specimen.

Specimen Volume: 2-3 (4-micron) sections on positively-charged slides. Corresponding H&E section with area of tumor marked by pathologist.

Storage/Transport: Room temperature or refrigerated. Protect from excessive heat.

Unacceptable Conditions: No blocks. No decalcified bone. No specimens fixed/processed in alternative fixatives. Do not freeze.
