IU School of Medicine trains the next generation of genetics researchers
The mission of the Medical and Molecular Genetics educational programs is to improve human health through research in genetics and apply the knowledge gained to further training and clinical service. This mission facilitates an understanding of the bench to bedside approach to medical science. Since the late 1960s, the department has trained more than 300 graduate students and fellows.
The department offers a PhD degree in Medical and Molecular Genetics, a Master of Science degree in Medical and Molecular Genetics, and a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in genetic counseling.
MD Courses
The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics offers MD electives ranging from basic human genetics to genetic counseling research—at multiple campuses.
Graduate Degree Programs
The department offers a PhD in Medical and Molecular Genetics, a combined MD/PhD, a MS in Medical and Molecular Genetics and an optional MS emphasis in genetic counseling.
Residency Program
A 24-month Clinical Genetics Residency Program in Medical Genetics is available. The program allows residents to develop expertise in teaching, basic research or diagnostics in specialty areas.
Fellowship Training
Fellowship training is available in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics, Clinical Molecular Genetics, and Genomics.
Postdoctoral Study
Postdoctoral opportunities in a broad range of research areas are available through the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics.
