The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics held its inaugural symposium in 2019. Since it's inception in 1960, the department has maintained a consistent presence on campus with more than 500 members including faculty, staff and students. Each year the department organizes an all day event, where members can learn what other genetics divisions and labs are working on and network across the department.
The day focuses on department highlights, research presentations, State of the Department address, poster sessions, professional development and more! Due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, the symposium was postponed for two years and returned in 2022. In 2023, we began hosting department alumni as keynote speakers, which we believe is especially insightful for genetics students to see the career trajectory of alumni.
