The Neurotrauma Fellowship in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine is designed to provide advanced, multidisciplinary training across the full continuum of neurotrauma care. Fellows will gain experience in acute inpatient management, outpatient recovery and rehabilitation, clinical research, quality improvement and the development of innovative care pathways. Working alongside experts in neurology, neurosurgery, trauma surgery, rehabilitation medicine, critical care, nursing and allied health disciplines, fellows will participate in a collaborative model of care that emphasizes evidence-based practice and patient-centered outcomes.
A key component of the fellowship will be participation in the newly established inpatient neurotrauma service, which aims to standardize care, improve care coordination across hospital teams, enhance patient education and optimize post-discharge recovery. The fellowship will provide hands-on experience caring for patients with a wide range of neurotraumatic injuries while exposing trainees to innovative approaches to diagnosis, treatment and long-term recovery.
The fellowship also offers opportunities for scholarly engagement and research. Fellows will have access to a growing portfolio of neurotrauma research initiatives, including participation in multicenter studies, biomarker-based investigations and collaborative clinical research networks. These experiences will help prepare future leaders who can advance scientific discoveries while translating research findings into improved patient care.
Application Process
Applicants for this fellowship must be residents or graduates of neurosurgical residency programs in the United States that are approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), or from neurosurgical programs in Canada that are approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The department is unable to accept applicants with an ECFMG visa. Interested candidates should submit a CV, letter of interest and three letters of recommendation to the Department of Neurological Surgery director of education.
