IU School of Medicine’s Evansville campus offers the same four-year medical education curriculum that’s available at all the school’s statewide campuses, which facilitates a continuity of learning, teaching and community involvement. Centralized on six competencies and mastery of core information, IU School of Medicine—Evansville provides an organized learning experience for medical students to gain the skills and knowledge needed for graduation, residency, internships and beyond.

In addition to the traditional curriculum, the Evansville campus also provides a specialized Mental Health in Medicine Track for students who are focused on mental health with a base in primary care.

No matter the track chosen, all IU School of Medicine—Evansville students receive quality third- and fourth-year clerkships and electives with highly trained and experiences physicians and residents, in a variety of clinical facilities in the tri-state area.

The Mental Health in Medicine Track is designed to equip future primary care and specialty physicians with the critical skills needed to assess, treat and triage pediatric and adult patients presenting with mental health issues in the primary care setting.

MD Enrichment Programs in Evansville

The IU School of Medicine—Evansville campus offers a variety of electives to offer medical students opportunities to pursue training in specific areas of interest. Elective courses in both basic science and clinical sciences help round out the overall student experience in medical education and allow opportunities to strengthen areas of weakness.

Concentration Topic: Quality and Innovation in Health Care

This Scholarly Concentration trains future clinicians to improve the quality of health care in a collaborative community setting. Students implement and assess health care solutions in the real world, leveraging Evansville’s four-hospital consortium, local health department and new simulation center. Students also collaborate with various health care professionals to complete team-based, project-oriented courses. Through completion of coursework and a scholarly project in quality improvement, students earn Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Examples of project topics include: Opioid stewardship, sepsis management, reducing readmission following surgery, concussion management, and reducing bed turnaround time.

The Hospital Medical Education (HME) program is an optional summer program for medical students who have completed one year of study. The programs offers students an opportunity to spend time with medical staff and personnel to learn about the various aspects of the health care system. HME is offered in various departments and specialties within a hospital setting as well as in private practice offices.

The Indiana University Medical Student Program for Research and Scholarship (IMPRS) facilitates  medical student participation in various medical research and experiential opportunities — ranging from summer programs with IU School of Medicine to year-long opportunities across the world.

Undergraduate Degree

The Bachelor of Medicine, B/MD program is a dual program offered through leading academic institutions in southern Indiana, allowing students to earn an undergraduate degree while receiving a provisional seat to the Indiana University School of Medicine upon graduation. Each university has unique requirements and benefits for their respective program.
