Because not much can get past Levi-Turner according to her colleague Suzette Schmidt.
Levi-Turner is a Program Management Assistant in the Division of Gastroenterology-Hepatology, directly supporting those in the division who are experts in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). In her role, she often serves as a contact for vendors, orders office supplies, requests medical records, creates the physician call schedule and so much more, said Schmidt.
“Erica is one of those staff members who takes care of many things behind the scenes. She wears so many hats that none of us truly knows the extent of her roles and responsibilities," said Schmidt, ERCP Clinical Research Nurse and Team Lead.
Recently, the ERCP research team needed help with a large NIH-funded project that had fallen behind schedule. Levi-Turner jumped in and took on many tasks to help get the project caught up.
“Anything from radiology exams being de-identified and uploaded to running reports for upcoming patient visits,” Schmidt said. “She is willing to do whatever is asked of her.”

How long have you been in your current role? How long have you been at IU?:
With IU for 21 years (28 years when including time at IU Health)
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The people. I truly enjoy my coworkers and physicians. I have worked with ERCP all 28 years I have been in University Hospital. (First in a clinical position, then in research.)
Have you recently completed a project, learned a new skill, or hit a major milestone?
I'm about to enter my 29th year at University Hospital, working with the same group. I started at University in the School of Medicine. My position was transitioned to IU Health, where I stayed for 7 years until coming back to School of Medicine to my current role.
Please share a bit about the people at work who inspire, challenge and motivate you.
Our director, Dr. Stuart Sherman, who passed away this past June, was an incredible human. Not only to every fellow he trained but every person he met. He was an extremely caring, thoughtful, and compassionate person. Personally and professionally. It is an honor to keep working in this department he worked so hard to build.
How do you like to spend your time when you're not at work? Can you share the details about a recent trip, project, accomplishment, or other activity you enjoyed?
I love to be outside doing yard work or reading on my deck. I am a DIY queen and a self-taught, wanna-be wood worker. I built my own fireplace mantel.
