The subspecialty boasts Indiana’s first and only multi-disciplinary program for upper airway stimulation, co-directed by Noah Parker, MD and Shalini Manchanda, MD. Many dozens of patients with obstructive sleep apnea have now been successfully implanted with the FDA-approved upper airway stimulation device—from a company called Inspire—under the care of this successful team of physicians at IU School of Medicine.
The Upper Airway Stimulation Program is one of a select few in the world selected to participate in the Adhere registry program, which aims to study the outcomes for patients following upper airway stimulation and to improve delivery and care for patients with sleep apnea. The program was named a "Center of Excellence" in 2019, one of only 19 programs in the world to receive this designation based on clinical outcomes, research and leadership.
