Otolaryngology is a surgical specialty providing care for disorders of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck. Otolaryngology encompasses dozens of subspecialties, treating a wide range of health conditions, including swallowing difficulty, thyroid and skin cancer, cochlear implants and facial trauma reconstruction.
As a major tertiary care center, the IU School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery works closely with multiple medical disciplines (e.g. neuroscience, radiology, oncology and audiology) to treat patients comprehensively. Many faculty members are fellowship-trained otolaryngologists who care for patients with disorders involving the entire spectrum of otolaryngology.
