Transportation and Parking

IU School of Medicine's Indianapolis campus is located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, providing students, faculty and staff convenient access to educational, clinical and recreational resources throughout the city. Classrooms, hospitals and clinical training sites are within walking, biking and scootering distance of many downtown attractions and amenities.

Campus Transit

Students, faculty and staff can take advantage of several transportation options throughout the Indianapolis campus and affiliated clinical sites.

The IU Health Shuttle provides transportation between major IU Health facilities, including Methodist Hospital, University Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children and other affiliated locations.

The IU Indianapolis Campus Shuttle operates Monday through Friday and generally runs every 10–15 minutes. An interactive bus app is available to assist with route planning and real-time shuttle tracking.

Public Transit

IndyGo, the public transit provider for the City of Indianapolis, offers transportation throughout the greater Indianapolis area and provides discounted fares for students. The Red, Blue and Purple Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines connect many neighborhoods to downtown Indianapolis and provide convenient access to campus and several clinical locations.

Indianapolis also offers a free bike share program for Marion County residents and scooter rentals to help get around campus and the city quickly and conveniently.

Campus Parking

Parking on the IU Indianapolis campus is managed by IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services. Parking permits are available for the fall, spring and summer semesters or for the full academic year.

Individuals with a valid parking permit from another Indiana University campus can find information regarding reciprocal parking privileges through IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services.

Visitor parking is available in multiple garages throughout campus. Students, faculty and visitors can also take advantage of free motorist assistance services, including battery jump-starts and flat tire assistance, by contacting Parking and Transportation Services at 317-274-4232.

An interactive campus map is available to help users locate buildings, parking facilities, accessibility features, construction zones and emergency resources.

Phase 1 (Pre-Clerkship) Parking

Students assigned to the Indianapolis campus during Phase 1 may request parking at the Medical Education and Research Building. Parking availability is limited and assignments are coordinated by IU School of Medicine. Parking at the Medical Education and Research Building is available in the North Lot.

Students assigned to the surface lot require the use of a physical Crimson Card for access. Students interested in obtaining Medical Education and Research Building parking must complete the Parking Request Form.

Parking assignments and access instructions will be distributed before the start of the academic year.

Questions regarding Medical Education and Research Building parking may be directed to compreq@iu.edu.

Clinical Site Parking

Parking requirements vary by clinical site. Students are responsible for reviewing site-specific parking instructions before the start of each rotation and completing any required parking requests or registration forms.
