Clinical partnerships with local physicians, clinics and hospitals provide students on the Fort Wayne campus with hands-on experiences.

Clinical Partners

Partnerships with universities, clinical sites and hospitals in the Fort Wayne area allow IU School of Medicine students at this campus to benefit from early clinical exposure and diagnostic skills practice. Third- and fourth-year students engage in clinical clerkship rotations at the IU Health, Lutheran Hospital Network, Parkview Health Facilities, and the VA Hospital of Northeast Indiana. Several hospitals in NE Indiana are equipped with Level II Trauma centers and specialists who provide medical care for the tri-state area (northeastern Indiana, southern Michigan and northwestern Ohio).

A variety of clinical clerkships and electives as well as continuing medical education events for both students and practicing physicians are also offered through these clinical partners. Physicians, residents and hospital personnel are easily accessible to medical students and enthusiastically provide informal clinical training and advice on career planning.

The Fort Wayne Medical Education Program offers family practice residencies and educational experiences for medical students in collaboration with these community hospitals.
