Under the IU policy on Academic Freedom (ACA-32), faculty members can choose to include a variety of supplementary materials when compiling their dossiers.
Example optional materials
- Copies of the most significant publication(s) in research, teaching or service
- Grant-related materials
- Sample course materials
- Unsolicited letters from students or trainees
- Unsolicited letters from patients
- Note: All protected health information (PHI) must be redacted.
- Summary of activities to advance the Indiana University School of Medicine core values of excellence; respect; integrity; diversity and inclusion; and cooperation; as articulated in the Honor Code
- Summary of activities to advance the IU Indianapolis institutional values articulated in the campus promotion and tenure guidelines, such as civic engagement; collaboration; diversity, equity and inclusion; economic development; entrepreneurial work and innovation; interdisciplinary work; and interprofessional education.
Additional considerations
- Depending on the length and nature of the materials, some are best to include in the appendices, rather than the dossier sections (e.g., full-length articles). Appendices are not included in the 50-page limit.
- Promotion and tenure decisions are made based on excellence or satisfactory contributions in research, service and teaching.
- Supplementary materials are at the discretion of the faculty member and do not need to be in their area of excellence.
