Faculty Affairs and Professional Development

FAPD develops a vibrant, healthy and engaging community where everyone can thrive, advance the school’s mission and cultivate the school's core values.

Prepare a powerful philosophy of teaching statement

Preparing to go up for promotion? Being nominated for an award? You'll need a philosophy of teaching statement that captures your reflections on the experiences and beliefs that shape your teaching and learning strategies. Learn the key components of a structured model that captures your values and aspirations.

A dark red background shows the IU School of Medicine logo with the words, "Seeking phenomenal biomedical and clinical scientists. Two prestigious awards: up to $25,000 and lectureships available! Final days to nominate! Nominations due Nov. 18."

Time is running out! Nominate award-worthy scientists by Nov. 18

Think globally, act quickly! Identify a scientist (outside of IU) whose work has had extensive reach and impact in biomedical or clinical science. Submit their CV + list of publications + letter of support to nominate them for the Steven C. Beering Award or the Mark Brothers Award. (Bonus: You could see them speak at IU!)

A dark red background is overlaid with partial screenshots of the three standardized rubrics, with text that reads, "Faculty Annual Review Rubrics: Open comment period: Oct. 17 to Nov. 16"

Faculty annual review rubrics: Review, comment, ask questions

Due to a new state law, all faculty annual reviews will use standardized rubrics to assess faculty performance beginning in spring 2026. Review, comment and ask questions about the rubrics until Nov. 16. (Trouble accessing the MedNet link? Try a different browser or an incognito window. Log in with your IU email address.)

Our Team

With a shared focus on fostering excellence in teaching, research, clinical care and service, our team is passionate about empowering faculty members to thrive and make a lasting impact in academic medicine.

(We also like to come together to do good and have fun. At left, the FAPD team partnered with Random Acts of Flowers to create dozens of bouquets of flowers for patients at IU Health and other central Indiana hospitals.)
