Indiana University School of Medicine participates monthly in the First Thursday Night events at the Indianapolis Children's Museum, a community night offering 75% off admission. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine ran the medical school's booth at the Aug. 6 event, giving local children of all ages the opportunity to engage with microscopes and learn about careers in the field.
The interactive experience was run by Nick Brehl, director of the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program; Cynthia “CK” Kaufman, MLS faculty member; Cytotechnology (CT) Program Education Coordinator Josh Howell; and 2026 CT graduate Angel Aye. Children enjoyed putting on lab coats and goggles for a photo in front of the IU School of Medicine backdrop.
Each month, medical students and faculty from different departments within the IU School of Medicine set up a booth and show families what they do while helping kids explore what's interesting about vaious careers in medical science. The monthly event is coordinated by the IU School of Medicine Office of Strategic Communications.
