Education Programs

A short course is available to researchers at IU School of Medicine and partner institutions. “Biostatistics and Data Science for Health Care Researchers” is designed especially for health care researchers in the health sciences. The program emphasizes basic concepts, clinical utility, interpretation and translation rather than theoretical mathematics, bridging clinical evidence with advanced computational pipelines, machine learning, and Generative AI applications in modern EHR systems. This course is CME credits allowed and offered periodically.

The short course consists of three sessions.

• Session I: Foundational Research Design & Basic Biostatistics will cover basic principles, design of medical research studies, the core logic of clinical evidence, hypothesis testing and comparing basic groups.
• Session II: Data Architecture, Diagnostics & Explanatory Modeling will move from data collection to analyzing relationships between variables and evaluating diagnostic tools.
• Session III: Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning & AI will handle complex, multi-variable clinical data and evaluate predictive AI models.

Registrants may choose to attend any single session of choice, Sessions I and II, Sessions II and III, or Sessions I, II and III.

After this program, participants will improve their ability to recognize common study designs, manage medical study data and apply essential statistical tools to practical problems. Participants will also master common statistical terminology, enabling them to communicate effectively and collaborate with professional statisticians and data scientists when consulting on complex medical research projects.
