Medication Information and Resources
The National Institutes of Health's LactMed® database contains information on drugs and other chemicals to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. It includes information on the levels of such substances in breast milk and infant blood, and the possible adverse effects in the nursing infant. Suggested therapeutic alternatives to those drugs are provided, where appropriate. All data are derived from the scientific literature and fully referenced. A peer review panel reviews the data to ensure scientific validity and currency.

Local and National Resources
The Indiana Behavioral Health Access Program for Youth ("Be Happy") within Indiana University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry is an innovative new child psychiatry access program for pediatric primary care providers. The program aims to improve Hoosier families’ access to best practice pediatric behavioral health care across the state by supporting health care providers in their local communities with guidance from psychiatric specialists.
The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry Adolescent Addiction Access (AAA) Program is a free provider-to-provider helpline for Indiana providers caring for youth ages 17 or younger with substance use disorders (SUD).
With support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), AAA provides timely access to evidence-based patient care services and community referral support from a team of experienced IU School of Medicine addiction specialists, including psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed clinical social workers. Addiction specialists are on hand Monday through Friday to offer consultations on a wide range of substance use and mental health services at no cost to providers.
Postpartum Support International (PSI) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide.
NAMI Indiana is the state organization of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI Indiana provides legislative advocacy, support, education, and training programs for people and groups across Indiana.
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration's Division of Mental Health and Addiction offers the Indiana Pregnancy Promise Program, a free, voluntary program for pregnant and postpartum Medicaid members who are or have been impacted by substance use disorders. The program ensures women’s privacy and confidentiality. The Pregnancy Promise Program connects individuals to prenatal and postpartum care, other physical and mental health care, treatment for substance use disorders, and addresses unmet health-related social needs of the family. The Pregnancy Promise Program provides support during the prenatal period and for 12 months after the end of pregnancy, or through the infant’s first year of life. The program offers hope to mothers and infants by identifying resources and supports needed to set a strong foundation for their future.
Mental Health America of Indiana’s (MHAI’s) mission is to work for Indiana’s mental health and victory over mental illness.
The Division of Mental Health and Addiction sets care standards for the provision of mental health and addiction services to Hoosiers. DMHA is committed to ensuring that clients have access to quality services that promote individual, family and community resiliency and recovery.
A Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) is a specially designated clinic that provides a comprehensive range of mental health and addiction services and be in compliance with the state’s criteria, developed by the Division of Mental Health and Addiction. CCBHCs serve all that walk through their door, regardless of their diagnosis, insurance status, place of residence or age.
Indiana Suicide Prevention offers resources including professional trainings, information from suicide prevention partners, and inforamtion from Indiana 988.

Postpartum Support International (PSI) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide.
1.800.944.4PPD (4773): PSI’s toll-free Patient HelpLine serves over 1,000 callers a month and is staffed by a volunteer team of PSI trained responders who rapidly refer callers to appropriate local resources, including emergency services. The Patient HelpLine also offers Spanish-language support – press 1 for Spanish.
PSI Perinatal Psychiatric Consult Line: The consultation line is available for medical professionals who have questions about the mental health care related to pregnant and postpartum patients and pre-conception planning. The Perinatal Psychiatric Consult Line is staffed by reproductive psychiatrists who are members of PSI and specialists in the treatment of perinatal mental health disorders. Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Moms Depression (MCPAP) Antidepressant Treatment Algorithm provides a step-by-step guide to prescribing antidepressants, with specific first and second line treatment recommendations and guidelines for ongoing assessment and treatment.
Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Moms Depression (MCPAP) Assessment of Depression Severity and Treatment Options highlights the signs and symptoms of depression and options for treatment as they relate to clinical assessment and/or EPDS score.
Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Moms Depression (MCPAP) Bipolar Disorder Screen was derived from the Composite International Diagnostic Interview-Based Bipolar Disorder Screening Scale to be used prior to starting treatment with an antidepressant.
Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Moms Depression (MCPAP) Screening Algorithm for Obstetric Providers provides guidance for obstetric providers and clinical support staff on administering the EPDS and next steps depending on the EPDS score. The first side is a simplified version of the algorithm. Side two provides more detailed information, including talking points and suggested language re: how to discuss the EPDS and resultant scores with the patients.
The EPDS is a widely used and validated 10-item questionnaire to identify women experiencing depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The EPDS is also available in Spanish, and in a variety of other languages including, but not limited to, Arabic, Portuguese, and Farsi.
