Students at the Muncie campus can access a wide range of support services from IU School of Medicine as well as those available through Ball State University. All centralized student services for IU School of Medicine operate from the Indianapolis campus, including  financial services and student learning environment, mistreatment reporting and conflict resolution support. Localized services are also available, including counseling, campus safety and more.

Student Support Services in Muncie

As part of the statewide IU School of Medicine academic advising program, each medical student is assigned a lead advisor, a highly-trained professional who guides students through their entire time in medical school.

IU School of Medicine is committed to helping students with disabilities succeed. All IU School of Medicine students in need of disability accommodations should apply through IU Indianapolis Adaptive Educational Services.

At the Muncie campus, medical students can access primary care, vaccines, preventative and women's health services at the Ball State Amelia T Wood Health Center. Other services for diagnostic or therapeutic health services not available at that location can be accessed by referral. Urgent care needs can be accessed at the IU Health Urgent Care or IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. IU School of Medicine permits students to be excused from required educational experience to seek needed care under the time away policy.

The Department of Mental Health Services provides mental health and personal counseling services to all IU School of Medicine students, residents, and fellows on every IU School of Medicine campus. Find details about mental health services in Muncie.

Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center

This 200,000-square-foot Ball State facility features a multi-level fitness area with cardio and strength training equipment, a three-lane 200-meter indoor track, several tables for table tennis, a five-court gymnasium, various fitness classes, an indoor turf building with batting cages, a 1,500-square-foot rock climbing wall and a free rental center for outdoor.

Foster Adams Family Tennis Complex and Lucina Tennis Courts

These two tennis spaces feature a combined 15 courts available for IU School of Medicine—Muncie and Ball State students. While students will need to bring their own tennis equipment, the IU School of Medicine—Muncie campus provides pickleball equipment in their wellness room perfect for finding a way to destress and blow off steam at either space. The Lucina courts are a 10-minute walk from the medical center, making a post-class pickleball game even easier.

Ball Gymnasium 

Located near West Quad, Ball Gymnasium includes an elevated indoor jogging track, swimming pool, basketball/volleyball courts and fitness studios for both Ball State and IU School of Medicine—Muncie students.

Ball Memorial 24/7 Fitness Center

Located right across the street from the IU School of Medicine—Muncie headquarters, the Ball Memorial Hospital Fitness Center is available to all medical students at no cost. This facility offers a variety of cardio and strength training equipment, providing locker space for all those using the facilities. Accessible to students and hospital staff via keycard 24/7, this space is the ideal place to complete a workout right before or after class or after a late-night study session.

Amelia T. Wood Health Center

Along with a student medical clinic, this center offers mental health services such as individual counseling, group therapy and workshops that aim to promote physical and mental well-being.

In case of needle stick
Go to Ball Hospital Employee Health Office located on 7 West or call 765-747-3458. Open 7:30-4:00, Monday through Friday. When the health office is closed, call the paging operator at 765-747-3298 and ask for the resident on call.
