Bio

Dr. Stevens is a native of South Carolina, receiving her undergraduate education at Wofford College. She attended the Medical University of South Carolina, where she received both her medical doctorate (MD)and a master of science in clinical research (MSCR). She underwent her residency training at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters at EVMS in Norfolk, VA. Her fellowship subspecialty training in pediatric rheumatology was at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. 

Dr. Stevens initially developed an interested in rheumatology during college immunology coursework. She went on to receive a Medical Student Preceptorship Award from the American College of Rheumatology in her first year of medical school to allow her to gain clinical experience working with both adult and pediatric rheumatologists. In her third year of medical school, she was accepted into a competitive NIH funded program to earn a predoctoral MSCR. She completed her thesis, "Determining the Role of Persistent Organic Pollutants as Environmental Triggers of Autoimmunity in Genetically at-Risk Individuals. Since that time, Dr. Stevens has continued research in the field of environmental autoimmunity.

Dr. Stevens is an active member in the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), serving as one of the leaders of the Juvenile Systemic Sclerosis subgroup. She has presented information from the North American CARRA registry on patients with this rare disease in the US, Canada, and the UK. 

Dr. Stevens is excited to be part of the progress that has been made in treating children with rheumatologic conditions. She hopes that through both her clinical and research work, she can contribute to an ever improving path for children with these diseases.
