The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) 40 Under Forty program recognizes the brightest emerging leaders and innovators of pathology and laboratory medicine under the age of 40. This year, IU School of Medicine pathology resident Halimat Olaniyan, MD, was honored as one of the 40 honorees in the 2025 list.
Olaniyan is a clinical-track pathology resident and associate chief resident in her final year of training. Her path to clinical medicine is unique — a patient herself, Olaniyan's journey living with sickle cell disease has been the driving force behind her career, as well as her interest in advocacy and health equity. Before receiving her medical doctorate at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Olaniyan attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she earned a bachelor's degree in public health sciences as a member of the inaugural undergraduate class at the School of Public Health. Following residency, she will pursue a fellowship in transfusion medicine and blood banking at the University of Illinois Chicago.
The prestigious ASCP 40 Under Forty program has been recognizing laboratory team members demonstrating stellar achievements in the early stages of their careers for over ten years. Honorees are selected by a committee of ASCP pathologists, laboratory professionals and resident members who evaluate candidates based on their accomplishments, experience, leadership skills and their dedication to innovation in the field of pathology and laboratory medicine.
Five members of the 2025 cohort will be recognized at the ASCP Annual Meeting as the 40 Under Forty Top Five. The Top Five are selected via a combination of public voting and committee selection; voting is open now and will close September 12.
