In this month’s Wellness Corner, we will be reviewing apps that help you focus on your well-being.
As we approach winter break and the turn of the new year, many people will be focusing on creating new habits or returning to old routines in order to “reset.”
Our first app, Fabulous, is a self-care app that is backed by science. Their website boasts that they it was created by “behavior change experts.”
It has excellent reviews and over 50 million users worldwide. The app has a free option but with limited options. There is also a seven-day free trial of the premium version, which does give you a good taste of the actual experience.
The premium version is $39.99 a year for Android users and $79.99 a year for Apple users. While that may seem pricey, the app does offer a ton of features that can help users develop healthy habits in relation to sleeping, nutrition, fitness, self-love, gratitude, relationships with others, grief, productivity, finances, etc.
The slow approach to habit-forming and positive reinforcement techniques within the app ease users into the process, and the platform is easy on the eyes! There are coaching modules and other “tricks” added to the app that help solidify such habits in order to help them become long-lasting.
VP of Environmental Wellness Autumn Austin uses the app and has written this "fabulous" review:
If you are looking for a great holiday gift to request to help jump start new habits, Fabulous is a good option for slowly developing long lasting life changes! Habits are an amazing way to lower the activation energy of an activity, as the more often you do an activity the easier it becomes each time. Your “Fabulous Journey” begins with drinking water each morning as a way to both nourish your body and give you a structured way to start your morning. Each morning you have a 2–3-minute morning coaching session that aims to motivate you and keep your habits strong. After a few days you are given the option to start adding items to your morning routine; this can be anything from taking your morning medicine to eating a nourishing breakfast to adding exercise to your daily routine.
The awesome part of Fabulous is it helps you break down the barriers to making these habits a part of your daily life. It provides tips that I had never thought could help (such as wearing my workout clothes to bed to motivate me to get to the gym in the morning) but make massive differences in my motivation and commitment to my habits. As you progress you also have the opportunity to pursue new journeys and add new routines to your day. This app is a bit expensive, but if you are looking to really kickstart your new year by building and maintaining habits, this is a well-built, easy to use, and non-intrusive way to start making small changes that can really impact your daily lives.
