Mychael "Myke" Spencer, a member of the IU School of Medicine Class of 2026, is the chairperson-elect for the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Board of Directors.

Spencer named SNMA chairperson-elect

Headshot of IU School of Medicine student Myke Spencer.Mychael "Myke" Spencer, MEd, a member of the IU School of Medicine Class of 2026 on the Indianapolis campus, is the chairperson-elect for the newly elected Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Board of Directors for 2025-2026.

He will assume this position on April 20 following the SNMA Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC). The chairperson plays a crucial role in providing strategic leadership and guidance to fulfill the organization’s mission of supporting the needs and interests of its members.

“I am excited to continue serving alongside our dedicated and inspiring leaders to make a difference in the medical community," Spencer said. "The work and mission of SNMA are more important than ever as we strive to advance an inclusive workforce in medicine, support underrepresented students, and advocate for equitable healthcare for all patients. I look forward to building on the extraordinary legacy of our beloved SNMA and empowering the next generation of physicians.”

SNMA is the nation's oldest and largest independent student-run organization dedicated to supporting underrepresented minority medical students. It has more than 150 chapters and 7,000 members nationwide.

Spencer hails from Indianapolis, Ind., where he developed a passion for learning and a deep commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. He has a bachelor's degree in biology from Indiana University Bloomington, a master's in teaching from Marian University and a Master of Organizational Leadership degree from Columbia University. Before following his dream of becoming a physician, Spencer spent over a decade in education, dedicated to serving the communities where he was raised.

He is actively involved in various extracurricular activities, including medical student government, the student outreach clinic, the SNMA chapter for IU School of Medicine, research projects, and numerous community service initiatives.

While he has a range of clinical interests, Spencer is particularly passionate about patient care and advocating for underserved and vulnerable populations. He also aims to integrate medical education into his future practice as a physician. In his free time, Spencer enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, and exploring new activities in Indianapolis.
