  • Why Emergency Medicine
I chose emergency medicine because I like the diversity in patients and the variety of conditions that they present with to the department. Every hour during every shift during every day can be drastically different than the previous. In the same day, I can treat patients with abdominal pain, chest pain, a sports injury, a psychiatric episode, stroke, trauma, and much more. I view the ED as the perfect place to make a positive impact on a lot of people who may be experiencing the worst day of their lives. I also see the opportunity to deliver high-quality substance use disorder related care specifically within the emergency department setting.
  • Why IU EM
I chose IU because I felt very welcome as soon as I got to Indianapolis for a fourth year away rotation. I am passionate about treating patients from diverse backgrounds because I know how important and impactful it is for patients to be treated by providers who look like them, so I loved having the opportunity to treat patients from all different backgrounds and cultures during my time at Eskenazi Hospital.

I was also able to genuinely build connections with faculty pretty quickly, including one of the faculty members who was continuously supportive to me throughout the entire interview season. I also appreciate IU’s dedication to not only training residents who will be prepared to handle any situation in any setting but will become leaders in several niches through several unique specialty track offerings which I plan to pursue.
