FIND T1D Research Study

Short for Finding Immune Nascent Type 1 Diabetes, the FIND T1D research study explores the best ways to get a home screening test for Type 1 diabetes. The study includes adults and children who previously took part in the Indiana Biobank, a statewide initiative co-developed by the IU School of Medicine and Indiana University Health to collect blood specimens for genomic sequencing.

Those who choose to take part will receive a home test kit to check for early markers (antibodies) linked to Type 1 diabetes. The study will offer different ways to help people complete screening. It will find out which way is easiest for people to do.

If a test result suggests there is a higher risk that Type 1 diabetes might be present, trained staff will contact the person. They will explain the results and offer follow-up testing. Then, people with confirmed positive results will have the results explained and will be given advice for follow-up care.

The goal of this study is to learn the best ways for people to be screened for future Type 1 diabetes.
