Indiana University School of Medicine named to top residency training rankings

INDIANAPOLIS — Four of the residency training programs at Indiana University School of Medicine have been recognized for excellence in the first regional residency program rankings by Doximity. The IU residency programs ranked in the top 10 in the Midwest are anesthesiology, diagnostic radiology, pediatrics and urology.

IU School of Medicine residency training programs rankings: fourth in diagnostic radiology, fifth in urology, and seventh in pediatrics and in anesthesiology in the Midwest regional rankings report released today.

“The IU School of Medicine consistently ranks well based on research funding success and assessments of our graduate medical education and clinical care programs,” said Jay L. Hess, MD, PhD, MHSA, dean and Walter J. Daly professor at the IU School of Medicine and vice president for university clinical affairs. “It is gratifying to have four of our residency programs designated by our colleagues for their comprehensive and top quality training.”

The IU School of Medicine annually trains 60 diagnostic radiology residents; 16 urology residents; 76 pediatrics residents and 81 anesthesiology residents.

This comprehensive national and regional assessment of residency programs spans 20 specialties and is based on more than 50,000 peer nominations from board-certified U.S. physicians. Doximity.com fuels the database of physicians that vote for U.S. News and World Report reputation as well as the U.S. News and World Report Doctor Finder tool on its site.

In September, data on a national evaluation of residency programs was made public for the first time in an effort to provide more transparency into the performance of residency programs and give medical students information to choose the right residency program to kick start their career. Three IU School of Medicine residency programs placed in the top 20 nationwide, including programs in urology and radiology with emergency medicine coming in at number one.

Today these rankings are being released on a regional level. The survey included more than 50,000 peer nominations from board-certified U.S. physicians, and evaluated 3,691 residency training programs across 20 specialties Information on the methodology and residency rankings are available online.
