Preparing the healers of tomorrow

The promise of better health is at the root of our work. Our donors believe in this mission and have created scholarships that open doors of opportunity, lower student debt and recruit the highest caliber students to train here in Indiana.

In easing some financial strain, scholarships lift a weight from students, freeing them to lead healthy, joy-filled lives and find purpose in work, play, family and more. That is a gift beyond measure, not only for the scholarship recipients, but also for the patients who will one day benefit from their care.

Your support helps students succeed

The Association of American Medical Colleges Residency Readiness Survey Project showed that during the first six months of residency, 98 percent of IU School of Medicine graduates meet or exceed overall performance expectations, as reported by their residency program directors. Supported by scholarships during her time at IU School of Medicine, Giovanni Rodriguez, MD, Class of 2020, was no exception. Learn more about how the support she received during her medical education prepared her for an impactful career as a healer.

Our donors step up to the challenge

The success of students at IU School of Medicine is challenged by rising costs and looming student debt upon graduation. In the 2024-2025 academic year, the annual tuition for an in-state student at IU School of Medicine was $38,872. Graduating medical students have an average indebtedness of nearly $194,000. When School of Medicine leadership identified this as an obstacle for medical students, our donors took it head on.

Your support opens doors of opportunity

Scholarship support enables medical students to participate in unique and enriching extracurricular activities instead of working part-time jobs. Students at IU School of Medicine campuses put what they’ve learned to good use — and serve their communities — at free clinics that serve the uninsured and underinsured. Under the supervision of licensed physicians, they provide care and learn the power of public service.

Rodolfo Gonzalez, MSIV, South Bend Campus

“Scholarship support has opened doors for me to participate in extracurricular learning experiences, such as meeting other physicians in the field of neurology and connecting with them and their work. For example, I was able to work with a group that advocates for caregivers of patients with dementia. I connected them with a clinic I used to work at in Northern Indiana for those patients and caregivers to get more resources and support.”

What scholarships make possible

Claire Jackson Headshot

"The scholarship support I received will allow me to graduate with a better financial state than I thought possible. This will start my husband and me off on the right track after we both graduate from medical school in May 2025 and allow us to pursue our passions for pediatrics and family medicine with less financial stress. It may even allow us to start a family sooner!"
