Bio

Prof. Allen Anandarajah is a board-certified rheumatologist. He joined the Indiana University School of Medicine in April 2026 as the division chief of rheumatology within the department of Medicine. Prof. Anandarajah is a clinician, educator and researcher.  Prior to transitioning to IU Health Physicians, Dr. Anandarajah worked at the University of Rochester Medical Center for over 25 years, where he also served as the clinical director for over 10 years.  

Prof. Anandarajah earned his medical degree from the University of Nigeria.  He then went on to do postgraduate training in internal medicine and rheumatology in Ireland before moving to the United States. He completed his internal medicine residency in Philadelphia, PA and his rheumatology fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center, before going on to join the faculty at URMC.

He is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology and Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis. His interests include early rheumatoid arthritis with particular emphasis on outcome measures and comorbidities, osteoporosis, erosive osteoarthritis of the hand, and the role of imaging studies in the evaluation of inflammatory arthritis. He has been continuously funded for the past 8 years and is involved in several pharmaceutical sponsored clinical trials. He has also authored over 60 abstracts and 30 peer reviewed articles.
