Bio
Joshua Lykins, PhD joined the Indiana University School of Medicine and Stark Neurosciences Research Institute in 2024. He is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Neurology with Dr. Donna Wilcock. Dr. Lykins’ research focuses on the contributions of platelets to the progression of vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) as well as Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Lykins obtained his graduate training at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine within the Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry department prior to joining IU School of Medicine. While there, he studied the roles of intragranular platelet and megakaryocyte proteoglycans in the development and function of these two cell types, and described the critical role these proteoglycans play in bone marrow homeostasis. He has transitioned to a postdoc position to expand his platelet biology background and apply it to diseases of aging.
