Bio
Philip Procento, PhD, is a clinical psychologist providing outpatient services in the Goodman Hall Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic at the IU Health Neuroscience Center. He earned his MS and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Dr. Procento completed his doctoral internship with the Psychiatry Department and recently completed the Clinical Health Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at Methodist Hospital under Dr. Yelena Chernyak, PhD, CBSM, HSPP.
Dr. Procento has expertise in health psychology, including coping with pain and other chronic and/or terminal illnesses, presurgical evaluations, and treating comorbid mental health conditions. He specializes in evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). His research has focused on the psychological dimensions of chronic pain (e.g., pain catastrophizing), health disparities, and patient-provider communication, with publications in a variety of journals including The Journal of Pain and Military Medicine.
