Bio
Dr. Coughlin currently serves as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Pediatric Surgery. She received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Prior to joining as faculty at Indiana University, Dr. Coughlin completed her Pediatric Surgery and Surgical Critical Care fellowships in Houston, TX.
Her clinical interests include bariatric surgery, quality initiatives, surgical critical care, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and extracorporeal life support (ECLS). She helped to develop and is active in the Adolescent Weight Loss Surgery program at IU North. She also represents Riley Hospital for Children as the Surgeon Champion for National Surgical Quality Improvement Program - Pediatrics (NSQIP-P).
Dr. Coughlin is invested in trainee education and serves as the site coordinator for general surgery residents on their pediatric surgery rotation. She has won multiple resident teaching awards.
She has published more than 20 peer reviewed papers relating to a number of surgical topics including ECLS, the artificial placenta and congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
