Dr. John J. Turchi is a professor and researcher at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is the chair of the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Pharmacology. He holds the Tom and Julie Wood Family Foundation Professorship of Lung Cancer Research and the Robert A. Harris Professorship of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.

John Turchi's laboratory research primarily focuses on developing novel therapies for lung cancer by targeting DNA repair and DNA damage response pathways. Work in his lab involves using small drug-like molecules to inhibit sensors of DNA damage and DNA replication stress, which are crucial for cancer cell survival. By disrupting these pathways, Turchi aims to induce cell death specifically in cancer cells, offering a greater therapeutic window and reduced off-target toxicity for treatment of lung and ovarian cancer. Efforts are geared towards translating these findings from the lab to clinical applications to benefit patients with limited treatment options.
